Who knows where our story ends? Who knows where it began? But no matter where we tread, I know I'll see you again.

about

Recorded live on April 14, 2012, this album documents NYC-based singer and multi-instrumentalist, Harrison Young's senior jazz recital in the world renowned William Paterson University Jazz Program.

From the Album Liner Notes:
"To say that April 14, 2012 is a day I will never forget might be a huge understatement when I think of all that happened. A more adequate statement might be that April 14, 2012 changed my life forever in so many ways that I can't even foresee all of them as I type this months later.

I thought of April 14 for months, if not years before it happened because it was the day of my senior jazz recital at William Paterson University, a program I have been peripherally involved in for over a decade via making music with many of its graduates. I went back to school in 2009 to pursue a degree in Jazz Vocal performance, based on a recommendation from the department chair, Dr. David Demsey.

As April 14 approached, I grew increasingly excited about sharing all the hard work I'd done with those most important to me. One of the main people I had in mind was my Grandma Nat, one of my biggest supporters and a huge proponent of both me going back to school and pursuing a career in jazz. For years, no matter what tour I'd been on or what musical success I'd had, my Grandma always asked me, "So, was it Jazz??"

My Grandma Nat passed away on the morning of April 14, 2012, a matter of hours before the recital I was so excited for her to see. A recital that was basically the realization of her dream for my life.

Needless to say, it was a very difficult day that made me wonder how I would be able to summon the courage to take the stage and do what I needed to later that night. After talking to my family, I went to William Paterson early to be with my friends, to lean on them, and to hear their recitals. While I felt like I was in a safe place, the astonishment of the day's events was beginning to get the best of me and truly make me doubt my ability to perform as the 8:30pm set time was drawing nearer.

And then a miraculous thing happened. Beginning at 8pm, one by one, all these wonderful people I've known throughout my life - friends, family members, teachers, and classmates - starting piling into Room 101 and taking their seats. They were there for me. They were there for me in a way I've never felt before. The love emanating from the audience began to overwhelm me and take over my soul. And then the music started.

The contents of this album depict the most miraculous, powerful, and meaningful hour and a half I have ever spent on stage in my life. From the downbeat of 'Charade' until the last haunting bars of 'I Know I'll See You Again,' this music and the people I made it with transformed me and gave me the chance to turn one of the worst days of my life into one of the absolute greatest.

Most importantly, I could feel my Grandma Nat right there with me, just as proud as she would have been in human form, if not more. Her love was apparent, as was the love I felt from everyone in the room. While mixing this album, I was extremely happy to realize that I still hear it, running through every note of every song. And I hope you will too."
